Iraq Reconstruction :
New Fields’ 3rd Rebuilding Iraq Conference
Washington,
DC -- The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Iraq Reconstruction
Task Force will present its activities in Iraq to
representatives from hundreds of companies and organizations
from around the world at the 3rd Rebuilding Iraq Conference,
New Fields officials announced today. Peter Hale, deputy to
Assistant Secretary of Commerce William Lash, will address
the February 25-26 event in Arlington, Virginia.
The Iraq
Reconstruction Task Force, headed by Assistant Secretary
Lash and Director Jay Brandes, serves as an important
clearinghouse of information for U.S. companies interested
in the new Iraq. The Task Force provides companies with
current information on reconstruction opportunities and the
redevelopment of Iraq’s economy by working closely with the
Coalition Provisional Authority, other government agencies,
and a variety of international organizations.
“We are honored
to have Peter Hale’s participation in the 3rd Rebuilding
Iraq Conference,” said Samir Farajallah, President and CEO
of New Fields. “The Commerce Department’s Iraq
Reconstruction Task Force plays a pivotal role in providing
information to companies interested in hitting the ground in
the new Iraq. Hearing this information straight from the
source will be a highlight of the conference and is
something that our attendees are very excited about.”
The conference
will also feature Mrs. Nasreen Barwari, the Iraqi Governing
Council’s Minister of Public Works, along with other Iraqi
government and business officials eager to form partnerships
with companies from the United States and elsewhere in the
world. Decision-makers from Halliburton will discuss
contracting and sub-contracting opportunities.
Following
February's 3rd Rebuilding Iraq Conference and Expo, New
Fields plans to hold its next exhibition in Iraq itself.
Four hundred
attendees from companies and organizations in 30 countries
attended the 2nd Rebuilding Iraq Conference in December,
which was covered by the front page of The New York Times,
Reuters, MSNBC, and in dozens of other media outlets
throughout the world. The event was sponsored by DHL,
Microsoft, Emerge Technologies, Orrick Herrington &
Sutcliffe, the Baghdad Museum Project, and the Foreign
Policy Research Institute.
To obtain
further information about the conference, please contact our

Beaver Borough :
Rotary-Lobe, Sludge Pump Saves the Day
Ravenna,
OH -- Beaver Borough's aging progressing cavity pumps were
continually breaking down, and very quickly becoming the
highest maintenance item at the facility. The system failure
was often attributed to short duration, dry running of the
progressing cavity pumps. The Borough's size made it
impossible to service this continuing problem in house, and
subsequently required contracting with costly outside
service providers to keep the units running.
The third repair
of the progressing cavity pump in one year was the final
straw. The Borough, with the help of its contracted
maintenance company reviewed all the options, and largely
based on the ease of maintenance, and it's ability to run
dry without damage, choose Vogelsang.
Unlike
progressing cavity pumps, Vogelsang's unique design allows
for dry running without damage to the pump. This, coupled
with Vogelsang's standard, 2 year, 100% warranty, including
wear parts, such as lobes, mechanical seals, bearings, etc,
has proved quite advantageous to the Borough. Since its
installation, the pump has been working flawlessly, and the
Borough has significantly reduced it’s maintenance budget
over the period.
Whether a small
community like Beaver Borough, a mid sized city, or a
metropolis the choice for ease of maintenance and reduction
in operational cost is clear, Vogelsang sludge pumps!
Since 1929,
Vogelsang has been a leading manufacturer of pumping,
grinding, and spreading technology for the municipal,
industrial and agricultural markets around the world.

DEP : Awards $5 Million In Energy
Harvest Grants
ET
NARVON, PA -- On behalf of Governor Edward G. Rendell,
Environmental Protection Secretary Kathleen A. McGinty
today announced the 32 grant recipients of a $5 million
state energy initiative that will leverage another $13
million in private funds to promote advanced energy
technologies proven to generate jobs, improve air quality,
preserve land, protect watersheds and enhance energy
security.
"When we announced the
Energy Harvest initiative last May, we wanted to attract
new investment to create the jobs we desperately need
while ensuring the highest standards of environmental
protection by promoting energy sources that are unique and
especially important to Pennsylvania," Secretary McGinty
said. "This first year is a wonderful success, with
projects that capitalize on advanced energy technologies
to transform environmental challenges into economic
opportunities while having a measurable impact on
pollution prevention."
Secretary McGinty made the
announcement at Wanner's Pride-N-Joy Farm, a 400-head
dairy farm in Salisbury Township, Lancaster County. The
farm received a $367,412 grant, sponsored by the Lancaster
County Conservation District, to help finance the
installation of an anaerobic biodigester. The biodigester,
which will process methane gas from manure, will be
capable of producing about 967,000 kWh of electricity
annually. This single project will be capable of powering
all of the farms needs and a community of about 100 homes.
"I am pleased that Wanner's
Pride-N-Joy Farm will be able to take advantage of
Pennsylvania Energy Harvest," Deputy Secretary of
Agriculture Russell Redding said. "By utilizing clean and
renewable energy technology, the Wanner family will be
able to reduce costs and increase profitability while
protecting the environment. I encourage other agricultural
operations to take advantage of this very worthy program."
"This is just the start,"
Secretary McGinty said. "By investing in Pennsylvania's
energy future and the future of clean and renewable
energy, the Commonwealth will continue to attract new
investments that will add another promising dimension to
communities hardest hit by economic downturns, especially
in the coal regions and rural Pennsylvania."

Energy Harvest and other energy-related topics in the
Governor's 2004-05 budget, visit the department's Web site

Mr. Bell wants to calculate oxygen transfer efficiency :
From everything I've read on this forum
over the last year this should be a simple problem for
most of you. I'd like to ask for some help with the
following "problem".
To be capable of a standard aeration
efficiency of 1.8 kg oxygen/kW/hr at 15 C in clean water how
much air must be drawn into water? Assume minimum water temperature of 15C
and maximum of 30C and assume alpha factor of 0.6 and beta
factor of 0.95.
I'm obviously not an engineer so I'm
looking for the "dummies" version of how to figure this out.
I'm trying to determine whether or not an
aerator drawing over 300m3 of air every hour can produce an
oxygen transfer efficiency of 1.8 kg oxygen/kW/h. Air is
introduced 8' below the surface and very fine air bubbles
are produced. Any information would be greatly
appreciated.
