On-The-Move : Mazzei And GDT To Merge

Bakersfield, CA -- Mazzei Injector Corporation announces the merger of GDT Water Process Corporation of Phoenix, AZ, USA. GDT is a water treatment equipment company specializing in ozone treatment and VOC stripping applications using patented pressurized dissolution and degassing technology in the industrial and municipal water arena. GDT will become a division of Mazzei Injector Corp. and will continue to offer its patented systems and processes along with its engineering expertise under the Mazzei Injector banner.

Paul Overbeck, President of GDT and immediate past chairman of International Ozone Association, will lead a team of engineers and sales representatives for the continued growth of Mazzei/GDT products and processes within water and wastewater treatment markets. Paul Overbeck, commented, “Our focus will be on the development of a strong, technically competent global distribution and service system for Mazzei and GDT applications of ozone, aeration, and chemical feed for the commercial, industrial, municipal and agricultural industries.”

Saudi Aramco : Selects USFilter Technology For Seawater Filtration

WARRENDALE, PA -- USFilter, a Siemens company, has received a multi-million dollar order to supply 20 horizontal sand filters for the Ain Dar and Shedgum seawater filtration project for Saudi Aramco's Qurayyah Seawater Treatment Plant located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Each filter will treat 125,000 barrels per day of seawater for water injection, filtering out suspended solids and particulates to prevent well plugging. The filters are horizontal sand filters, each 11 feet in diameter with 40-foot side shells.

Original design capacity of the plant is seven million barrels per day -- this equipment order will add 2.5 million barrels per day of additional capacity. The filtered seawater will also meet a tight specification of 0.2 mg/L Total Suspended Solids in the effluent, which original equipment installed at the plant has been unable to meet consistently.

In March 2002, Saudi Aramco engaged USFilter to perform an independent engineering study to identify existing problems and to make recommendations for improvements and upgrades to the system. The study was completed in May 2002.

"This is an important project," says Joe Momont, project manager for USFilter. "With the addition of the sand filters, the treatment plant will be able to function more effectively and efficiently, as it was originally intended."

Expected delivery of the equipment is being staged from October 2004 through January 2005. Startup will be in mid-2005.

USFilter Corporation, a Siemens company, delivers cost-effective, reliable water and wastewater treatment systems and services to municipal, industrial, commercial and institutional customers worldwide. USFilter is part of Siemens' Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S), which provides innovative solutions and services designed to improve competitiveness in processing and manufacturing industries and in infrastructure. In fiscal 2004 (to September 30) I&S employed a total of 30,000 people worldwide and achieved total sales of EUR 4.290 billion. Visit company websites at www.usfilter.com , and www.siemens.com

EPA : To Extend Permit Deadline for Stormwater Discharges

Washington, DC -- EPA proposes to extend until June 12, 2006, the regulatory deadline that would require stormwater permit coverage for oil and gas construction activities that disturb between one and five acres of land. The agency needs additional time to consider comments raised by stakeholders and to consider the economic, legal and procedural implications related to controlling stormwater discharges from these sites.

The public may provide comments on the proposed extension for 30 days upon publication in the Federal Register. A copy of the proposed extension and information about EPA’s stormwater program is available at: http://www.epa.gov/npdes/stormwater .

During the next 15 months, EPA intends to: complete an economic impact analysis; evaluate several regulatory options for addressing these stormwater discharges; and evaluate practices and methods used to control stormwater discharges from these sites. EPA intends to hold at least one public meeting with stakeholders to exchange information on current industry practices and their effectiveness in protecting water quality.

Today’s proposed extension also outlines EPA’s intent to develop and propose a regulation that would address stormwater discharges from these oil and gas construction sites. This proposal, to be made by Sept. 12, 2005, will be made available to the public for review and comment.

Scott needs help with grease traps:

I hope someone here can offer some advice with a problem I'm having. Everyone here seems extremely knowledgeable, I just hope this topic is applicable to this forum.

I supervise custodial operations in a school district in Illinois. We are responsible for a maintenance program that is supposed to prevent problems in our kitchen grease traps.

I should add that as far as I know, the program we are following was designed and initiated by a chemical salesman who sells us the chemicals that we use for the program. This program involves pouring gallons of expensive chemicals down our drains every week, three different products are sold to us to utilize in this program. This morning, we had a grease trap blockage at one of our schools. Obviously, I'm not real happy at this point, and I'm going to closely scrutinize exactly what we are doing and why.

Any advice, tips, past experiences, product names, web sites, would be very much appreciated. I apologize if this is not applicable to this website, but I'm desperate for some unbiased advice!  (Click here to post a reply)
