New "Qstart" Software Utility for ADS Flow Monitors

Huntsville, AL -- ADS Environmental Services® today introduces Qstart™, a new software utility that can be instantly downloaded from the ADS website for use with ADS flow monitors. This user friendly software allows field crews to setup and activate the ADS FlowShark® Triton, FlowAlert™, and RainAlert™ II monitors in minutes, saving time and money in the field.

“ADS is very pleased to provide this newest software for customer download to simplify the installation and data collection processes”, states Garry Wood, Vice President of Sales for ADS Environmental Services. “It was designed as an answer to input from customers on how ADS can improve the delivery of flow monitoring data. Continuous improvement in delivery of products, services, and data is one of our highest priorities at ADS.”

Qstart also enables the user to collect and review the meter’s depth and velocity data in hydrograph and tabular views simultaneously. Qstart does not calculate a flow rate, but users can configure the meter to generate and store a calculated flow rate if they desire. All data collected in Qstart can be viewed in the field and exported in CSV format for import into the desktop software of the user's choice. Qstart is a field tool and has no data editing or flow calculating functions.

The FlowShark Triton is ADS’ newest flow monitor. It is a state-of-the-art flow monitor with multiple technology sensors for unparalleled versatility and redundant monitoring in all applications. This revolutionary new fit-for-purpose monitoring device with multiple depth measurement technologies and multiple velocity measurement technologies is also an Intrinsically Safe monitor.

Severn Trent De Nora Electrolytic Technology for China

Fort Washington, PA -- Severn Trent De Nora has received a contract to provide its electrolytic disinfection treatment solutions for biofouling control and wastewater treatment to the China Offshore Oil Engineering Corporation for its Liwan 3-1 deep sea gas field project in the South China Sea. The Liwan 3-1 gas field is the first deep sea gas field in China and will begin production in 2013.

Severn Trent De Nora will be supplying the Seaclor® 23 kg/hr seawater electrochlorination system and the Omnipure™ Series 55 sewage treatment system, which is capable of treating up to 38,153 liters/day. Process water used on the rig requires disinfection treatment to alleviate biofouling concerns. In addition, a sewage treatment system is required to safely and effectively treat the black and gray water produced onboard.

The Seaclor system utilizes a proven electrolytic treatment process to generate a sodium hypochlorite disinfectant solution on site using only electricity and seawater. When injected into the cooling water circuits of deep sea gas production facilities, the on-site-generated solution prevents biofouling and marine growth in order to protect the equipment.

Omnipure Series 55 sewage treatment systems are the only marine sewage treatment systems that oxidize sewage in an electrochemical cell as well as generate sodium hypochlorite for the disinfection of the sewage streams. The Omnipure Series 55 systems offer effective electrolytic treatment of both black and gray water while providing a safe and sanitary method of handling solids. The systems have received Bureau Veritas certification for IMO Resolution MEPC.159(55) and USCG Certificate of Approval to MEPC.159(55).

WEF : Biosolids Recycling and Resource Recovery

Alexandria, VA -- The Water Environment Federation’s (WEF) Board of Trustees has approved a revised position statement that calls for innovative and beneficial uses of biosolids. The statement expands on the Federation’s existing support of federally regulated land application by encouraging a comprehensive approach to wastewater treatment and solids management that ensures the recycling and recovery of all associated resources including water, nutrients, organic matter and energy.

“As a natural byproduct of wastewater treatment, WEF recognizes that biosolids is a renewable resource that is too valuable to waste given our growing needs for renewable energy and sustainability,” said WEF Executive Director Jeff Eger. “The adoption of this revised statement reflects WEF’s support of initiatives to ensure an expanded view of wastewater and solids management as well as our commitment to pursue innovation in water quality.”

WEF believes that a cultural move toward sustainability has the potential to shift policy-maker and public perception of biosolids from a waste to a community resource that can help achieve sustainability goals. This shift is creating unprecedented opportunities for the wastewater and biosolids community to position biosolids as a valuable commodity.

Also recognizing that biosolids recycling remains a local decision, WEF encourages the use of whatever associated practice—land application, composting, energy generation, product development, landfilling, incineration, or other uses—is best suited to a community’s economic and technological capabilities.

To take full advantage of the inherent resource value of biosolids, WEF supports development of multiagency coordinated regulations that are based on sound research and best practices; advancements, innovation, and development of new technologies; recognition of the expanded role of wastewater and solids management; enhanced sharing of knowledge both within the profession and with other organizations, the regulatory community, and the public; and continued research.

This position is consistent with decades of scientific research and years of field practice that have clearly established the value and environmental benefits of biosolids, when properly treated and managed. It is also consistent with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) position and those of other federal agencies, which encourage the beneficial use of biosolids through policies and regulations, including the Clean Water Act.
