Krohne Completes Acquisition of INOR Process AB

Duisburg, Germany -- Krohne announces that it has completed its acquisition of INOR Process AB, a Swedish company specializing in the development, production and sale of temperature transmitters. INOR Process AB’s expertise in industrial temperature measurement instrumentation will launch Krohne into this market and will also broaden Krohne’s current product portfolio.

“INOR will be another strong partner in the Krohne Group. We will now be able to offer our customers a complete family of temperature measuring instruments,” said Michael Dubbick, managing director of Krohne.

Feliz Brakl, managing director of INOR, said, “Krohne is an ideal partner. Not only will we continue to be a leading manufacturer of temperature transmitters, but we will also be able to grow faster.”

The acquisition will result in numerous synergies, both for Krohne and INOR, which will benefit the companies’ customers. Krohne will continue to foster INOR’s long-standing customer relationships and partnerships.

INOR Process AB (Malmц) specializes in the development, production and sale of temperature transmitters. They are sold through a wide worldwide network of OEM resellers. The company sells its complete line of temperature measuring instruments directly in the Scandinavian market. INOR, inventor of the headmounted transmitter, is a leading manufacturer of innovative temperature transmitters. The private company has 56 employees. It was founded in 1940 by Alfred Brakl and generates 7.2 million Euros in sales.

Siemens Creates Integrated MBR Technology Center

Erlangen, Germany -- Recognizing the growing customer need for integrated biological and membrane wastewater treatment, USFilter, part of the Water Technology division of Siemens's Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group, has created a new Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) Technology Center. The center will focus on wastewater treatment solutions that combine the company's proven Memcor MBR with established biological technologies from Envirex, Jet Tech and Davco product lines.

Such technologies include multi-channel oxidation ditches, vertical loop reactors, field-erected biological systems, sequencing batch reactors, and other biological technologies of Siemens.

"The MBR Center will provide our customers with more choices to cost effectively treat their wastewater," said Chuck Gordon, executive vice president of the Water Technologies' systems unit. "We will be able to develop new products and new configurations of MBR technology - allowing customers to expand MBR applications, improve effluent quality, and reduce costs."

MBRs were introduced in the last 10 to 15 years as a way of combining membrane filtration with biological treatment. An alternative to conventional treatment, MBRs enable customers to meet strict effluent requirements with smaller treatment plants that allow higher reactor loadings and produce less sludge. The technology is ideal for retrofits and for water recycling.

According to market researchers, the market for MBRs is still growing. Robert W. McIlvaine of the McIlvaine Company, a filtration forecasting firm, has noticed a 30 to 40 percent increase in MBR sales over the past few years. Within that number, MBR usage for wastewater treatment has increased by 60 percent. In the U.S. alone, sales are projected to almost double to nearly $100 million by the year 2010.

"Our new MBR Center will be supported by our best team of experienced Memcor membrane and process technologists, as well as biological treatment experts," said Gordon. "The group will be fully focused on the growth potential of the product and the MBR market."

Siemens Water Technologies delivers cost-effective, reliable water and wastewater treatment systems and services to municipal, industrial, commercial and institutional customers worldwide. The division "Water Technologies" is part of Siemens' Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) which is the integrator of systems and solutions for industrial and infrastructure facilities and global service provider for the plant and projects business covering planning, installation, operation and the entire life cycle.

Hydroxyl Systems Awarded $6M Royal Caribbean Contract

VICTORIA, BC -- Hydroxyl Systems Inc. announced today that a $6M contract was awarded by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. of Miami, Florida for the turnkey supply of two Hydroxyl CleanSea® advanced wastewater purification systems onboard Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises vessels.

Under this contract, Hydroxyl Systems begins simultaneous installation of the two CleanSea systems in January with scheduled completion in June 2006. The CleanSea wastewater treatment systems will effectively process all black water and grey water generated aboard the 2,500 passenger Radiance of the Seas and 2,000 passenger Celebrity Summit cruise vessels. As a result of implementing Hydroxyl’s technology, Royal Caribbean will reliably exceed stringent Alaska State environmental regulations by 50% for effluent discharge within sensitive aquatic environments along the Alaskan coastline.

“Hydroxyl Systems is extremely proud to be selected as Royal Caribbean’s environmental technology partner for these high profile wastewater treatment projects,” stated Hydroxyl CEO, Gord Hannigan, “The award of this contract underlines Royal Caribbean’s confidence in Hydroxyl’s capabilities, based on over four years experience of working together. We have demonstrated that Hydroxyl has the people and robust technology to execute this new contract. We are committed to enabling Royal Caribbean to reliably exceed stringent environmental standards at the best value offered in the marketplace.”

The announcement continues Royal Caribbean’s commitment to environmentally responsible operations, and is in support of the company’s Save The Waves corporate waste management policy. The new CleanSea systems are in addition to two Hydroxyl wastewater systems already in operation in Royal Caribbean’s fleet onboard the Enchantment of the Seas and the Vision of the Seas cruise vessels.

"In Hydroxyl, Royal Caribbean has an advanced technology solution and business partner that enables us to continue to demonstrate leadership in environmentally responsible operations within our industry," said Royal Caribbean Vice President of Newbuilding & Fleet Design Peter Fetten. “Following a comprehensive review of available technologies, Hydroxyl Systems clearly offered one of the best technological approaches for our needs on these important projects.”

Mr. Tearman wants to know about WW grinders:

I am not sure when to choose between a channel grinder or an inline grinder. Does the inline grinder affect the NPSH of the pump or any of the pumps characteristics?

Our application is a sump with a self-priming pump. The liquid flows rising main into the sump.  (Click here to post a reply)

Mr. Milder needs help with grit and rag pH:

My understanding is that we will shortly be mandated to raise the pH of our grit and rags to 11.5 for a minimum of 2 hours before we can take it to the landfill.

Currently we are using bag lime to accomplish this.  But man, what a dusty mess.  The grit and the rags are in 2 separate hoppers that are about 10 foot deep.  The dust is tearing everything up.

Is there an alternative product to raise the pH without causing all of the havoc?  (Click here to post a reply)

Thanks to anyone who can help me out,
Tom Milder
