Earth Tech Wins Sewage Treatment Contract in Northern Ireland

Innovative Solution Wins Third Successive Northern Ireland
Contract for Earth Tech
LONG BEACH, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Tyco Flow Control,
a unit of Tyco International Ltd. (NYSE: TYC; LSE: TYI; BSX: TYC),
today announced that its Earth Tech division will partner with
Farrans (Construction) Ltd., to reconstruct the Newry sewage
treatment works for Water Service in Northern Ireland. The new
treatment plant will service a population of over 63,000. This
is the third successive contract that Earth Tech has obtained
in Northern Ireland.
"The awarding of three consecutive contracts in Northern Ireland
demonstrates the quality reputation that Earth Tech has earned
in this region," said Diane C. Creel, president of Earth Tech.
"Earth Tech has the capability to provide our clients with the
best service and support in the industry, coupled with
cost-efficient and resourceful engineering solutions."
The winning proposal, developed by Earth Tech and Farrans, meets
the planning conditions imposed by Water Service, while offering
innovative solutions to the infrastructure challenges posed by
the site.
The first Cyclic Activated Sludge System (CASS(TM)) in Northern
Ireland will be installed at Newry. The small footprint-treatment
plant is ideal at sites such as Newry, where space is limited
due to congestion.

Garden State Labs Earns NELAP Accreditation
------------------------------------------------------------
HILLSIDE, N.J., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Garden State Laboratories
, Inc. of Hillside, NJ is proud to announce that it is in the
first class of laboratories accredited under the new National
Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) sponsored
by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
With the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection as
its Accrediting Authority, Garden State Labs is accredited in
the fields of microbiology and chemistry testing in the areas
of drinking water, wastewater and solid/hazardous wastes. The
State of New York certifies Garden State Labs for the same
fields of testing.
What is NELAC?
The National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference
(NELAC) is a cooperative association of States and Federal
Agencies, formed to establish and promote mutually acceptable
performance standards for the operation of environmental
laboratories. The standards cover both analytical testing of
environmental samples and the laboratory accreditation process.
Private sector input to the process is obtained through a variety
of mechanisms including open semiannual meetings, participation
in NELAC committees, and through the Environmental Laboratory
Advisory Board (ELAB), a federally chartered advisory committee
with a balanced representation of the private sector, that
provides advice to EPA and NELAC. The goal of NELAC is to
foster the generation of environmental laboratory data of known
and acceptable quality on which to base public health and
environmental management decisions.
What is NELAP?
The National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP)
is the program that implements the NELAC standards. States and
Federal agencies serve as Accrediting Authorities with coordination
facilitated by EPA to assure uniformity. Accreditation by one
NELAP Accrediting Authority is mutually recognized by the other
State and Federal Accrediting Authorities approved under NELAP.
NELAP recognized 11 State programs as Accrediting Authorities in
the summer of 1999.
Don't States already accredit environmental laboratories?
Yes, but prior to NELAC, the existing State programs varied widely
in scope and requirements. Some states had only drinking water
laboratory accreditation, while a few accredited laboratories
for drinking water, wastewater, air, and solid and hazardous
waste. Currently, in order to select a laboratory to analyze
samples from a given location, it is first necessary to determine
whether there is an applicable State accrediting program, obtain
a list of accredited laboratories, and contact accredited
laboratories to determine if they are able to perform the analysis.

Barben Analyzer Technology Announces New Line of pH Sensors
------------------------------------------------------------
CARSON CITY, NV - Ted Barben, a leader in the pH and ORP sensor
engineering field, has unveiled his latest venture, Barben
Analyzer Technology. One of the founders of TBI and Uni-Loc

the reference from the specimen fluid. The end result is a
new sensor that lasts longer, incorporating not only the AIP
reference but also a solution ground that is corrosive
resistant. This provides shielding of the reference, measuring
electrode, and sensor cable.
