: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to Speak at Stormwater Conference
SAN
ANTONIO, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
will deliver the keynote address at StormCon '03, the
second annual North American Surface Water Quality
Conference & Exposition, on July 29. The conference
brings hundreds of experts from the rapidly growing
stormwater industry to San Antonio July 28-31.
As Chief Prosecuting
Attorney for Hudson Riverkeeper, an environmental advocacy
group, Kennedy is one of the leading voices for water
quality protection. He has been instrumental in developing
a network of more than 90 Waterkeeper programs around the
world.
StormCon is the premier
gathering of professionals involved with surface water
quality. Hundreds of public-sector officials, regulators,
private engineers, and manufacturers come together each
year for three days, concentrating on surface
water-quality challenges. The event also includes the
world's largest trade show of stormwater-related products,
equipment, and services.
The federal Clean Water Act
marked its 30th anniversary last year, and the country has
made great progress in the last three decades in cleaning
up water pollution from factories and industrial sites. A
continuing water pollution problem, however, is the
pervasive runoff from roads, parking lots, construction
sites, and other urban environments. Each time it rains,
stormwater runoff carries sediment, oil and grease,
hydrocarbons, fertilizers, and other pollutants into the
storm drains and from there to rivers, lakes, and beaches.
Combating this type of pollution is the goal of the
rapidly growing stormwater industry.
Forty StormCon conference
sessions will highlight technologies and strategies for
improving water quality, paying for local stormwater
programs, and -- one of the industry's biggest challenges
-- teaching the public about stormwater.
More than 110 vendors will
gather in the exhibit hall to give demonstrations of the
latest stormwater treatment technologies. Attendees can
ask questions and compare solutions to see what will work
best in their areas. The exhibit floor will also provide
those attending the conference the opportunity to meet
with their counterparts attending from throughout the
world.
StormCon takes place July
28 through 31, 2003, at the San Antonio Marriott
Rivercenter on the River Walk in San Antonio, Texas. Press
passes will be available at the conference, free of
charge.
StormCon is hosted by
Forester Communications ( www.forester.net
), publisher of Stormwater magazine and other publications
focusing on infrastructure and the environment. For
information, contact Steven DiGiorgi at 805 682 1300 x129
or sdigiorgi@forester.net.

Headworks : Monster Separation System Debuts
COSTA
MESA, CA, July 2003 -- JWC Environmental announces the
introduction of Monster Separation Systems. These advanced
systems feature high performance fine screens together
with the award-winning Screenings Washer Monster.
Two types of screens are
available - a traveling fine screen named Finescreen
Monster, which has 6mm or 3mm screens, and a double flow
band screen dubbed Bandscreen Monster, with screening down
to 2mm openings. Both systems include the Screenings
Washer Monster, which effectively processes the captured
screenings, typically achieving 50% dry solids and 80% (or
more) volume reduction in the discharge. The integration
of a Muffin Monster grinder facilitates efficient washing,
allowing organic material (fecal) to return to the plant
waste stream for processing.
The Finescreen Monster
ranked number one and the Bandscreen Monster number three
in capture ratio comparisons overseen by UK Water Industry
Research tests - the only government sponsored fine screen
test in the world. The Screenings Washer Monster was
recognized by WEF with an Innovative Technology Award in
2001. As integrated systems, these new products offer
unparalleled performance, both in terms of capture
efficiency and discharge cleanliness.
Introduction of these
systems to the market represents another important step in
JWC's goal to be the preferred and most comprehensive
headworks equipment supplier in the wastewater industry.
JWC Environmental, a
privately owned corporation headquartered in Costa Mesa,
California, manufactures and services a complete line of
sewage waste grinders, high flow fine screens, solids
removal and processing equipment for wastewater treatment.

Metering : Water
Disinfection, The Choice is Crystal Clear!
Rochester,
New York -- Pulsafeeder, a unit of IDEX Corporation,
has developed a unique technology that provides a simple
and intuitive pressurized flushing system integral to the
pump head specifically designed for metering sodium
hypochlorite solutions with great accuracy and
repeatability.
The Pulsar HypoPump. was
explicitly designed to meter the full range of
concentrations of sodium hypochlorite and its vapors
associated with heat and degradation of composition. The
HypoPump. features a patent pending design that allows
pressurized process fluid to cyclically flush vapors and
liquids through the pump’s discharge check system while
maintaining high performance and chemical dosing accuracy.
The design is integral to the pump head and eliminates the
need for expensive, unreliable, and undesirable bypass
systems including, piping, valves, fittings, and
instrumentation.
Most notably, this system
is closed-looped and not open to atmosphere at any point,
therefore eliminating crystallization of the sodium
hypochlorite. The exclusive and distinctive design also
enhances self-priming capabilities since the pump system
automatically evacuates entrained air in the piping system
and pump head.
The Pulsar HypoPump. is a
generational leap in fluid and gas handling metering pump
technology. It is available in PVC and PVDF construction
with dosing rates from 0.5 GPH through 110 GPH (1.9 –
416.4 lph) and pressures as high as 150 psig (10 bar)
through temperatures of 150 degrees F (65 degrees C).
