WILMINGTON, MA -- KMS International LLC, a subsidiary of Koch Membrane Systems Inc., with headquarters in Wilmington, Mass., has acquired Puron AG, an Aachen, Germany-based manufacturer of submerged hollow-fiber membrane modules for wastewater treatment.

The purchase will add membrane bioreactors to Koch's bevy of water purification technologies offered to its customers.

"The Puron technology will enable us to offer superior membrane modules in membrane bioreactors for municipal and industrial wastewater applications," said David Koch, Koch Membrane president. "Our focus for the near future is to integrate this technology with our existing municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment businesses. We are extremely delighted to have made this acquisition and are very optimistic about its contribution to Koch Membrane Systems' capabilities."

As a wholly owned subsidiary of KMS International, Puron will continue to be based in Aachen.

Koch Membrane Systems Inc. has been a global leader in state-of-the-art membrane development for more than 30 years. Its membranes are in place globally where large-scale uses of membranes occur. Koch Membrane Systems is a Koch Chemical Technology Group LLC company.

EPA : Trading Handbook Helps Water Quality Managers Achieve Cleaner Watersheds

Washington, DC -- Water quality trading has gained attention as an effective market-based approach for state and local governments to achieve cleaner water. Because the concept of water trading is new and not commonly practiced, water quality managers may want to know if trading will work in their local watershed.

EPA's "Water Quality Trading Assessment Handbook" is designed to help determine if trading can be used to make cost-effective pollutant reductions and determine if trading may be the appropriate tool. Using a hypothetical river basin, the handbook illustrates a framework that may be used as a model in any watershed to evaluate problems and determine if trading could effectively address those local conditions.

The handbook also illustrates how to assess the relative costs of controlling key pollutants and helps the user decide if trading would be financially attractive to watershed participants. General information about water quality trading and the handbook is available at: http://www.epa.gov/owow/watershed/trading.htm

New : Super Shredder Reduces Tough Solids

Livingston, NJ -- The Super Shredder® in-line disintegrator easily reduces tough solids entrained in pipeline systems including waste sludge, oil solids, animal wastes, agglomerates and more. The unit combines unsurpassed grinding capabilities with streamlined, easy to maintain features.

Innovative design provides a high level of open area to fluid flow making the Super Shredder ideal for applications requiring a heavy duty size reduction processor that can handle high flows with minimal headloss. In most cases, the headloss is 50% less than with twin shaft units.

The Super Shredder features a patented “spherical shredding” mechanism that cuts and shears tough sewage solids into fine bits. The hard faced stainless steel cutters offer unsurpassed wear resistance. Because of the spherical rotor design, the Super Shredder has far less moving parts and therefore requires far less maintenance than units with banks of cutter disks. With two easily replaceable one piece cutters, maintenance is convenient and down time is minimal.

Included with the Super Shredder is a S-250 Auto-Reversing control system that senses jam conditions and automatically reverses.

AirJection System Solves Wastewater Problems for Corn Milling Plant

The Problem: Although the existing WWTP aeration system was capable of meeting effluent BOD requirements for disposal to a municipal sewer during warm weather, the cooling effect of the surface aerators (due to heat losses from evaporation) adversely impacted performance during winter operation. In addition, the existing aeration system did not have enough capacity to handle the increased load from the planned expansion of the facility...(more)
