A New Era of Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Technology
------------------------------------------------------------
IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- James Houtz, President
of Sionix Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: SINX) and Brad
Rinehart, President of Hoffinger Industries, Inc., today
announced that a Joint Venture Agreement was reached between
the Environmental Products Division (EPD) of Hoffinger Industries
and Sionix Corporation to jointly manufacture and market a new
era of Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) technology equipment for
the commercial drinking water and industrial wastewater
industries.
EPD, which currently has a strong market position globally in
commercial filtration equipment for pools, water parks, and
small to mid size drinking water systems, will couple the new
Sionix DAF technology with their current, high rate media
filtration equipment for better performance at higher
nephelometric turbidity unit (NTU) levels. "We are excited
about adding this advanced DAF technology to our existing
product mix. Not only will it expand our drinking water
capabilities, it will also lead us into a new market for
industrial wastewater treatment," commented Brad Rinehart,
President of Hoffinger Industries. "We are hoping this will
be the first of many new technologies that we are able to
move out of Research and Development at Sionix and into
manufacturing and marketing through EPD and Sionix,"
Rinehart added.
Hoffinger Industries is a privately held corporation which
has three operating divisions, Environmental Products Division,
focusing on commercial water filtration for pools, water parks,
and drinking water systems; Doughboy Recreational, a complete
line of above ground swimming pools, pumps, filters, ladders,
and liners; and Lomart Industries, another complete product
line of above ground swimming pools and accessories. Hoffinger
Industries has been involved in the water industry for over 55
years.
Sionix Corporation is a developer of new concepts in
"Dissolved Air Flotation Technology" for drinking water and
wastewater treatment systems for municipalities and industrial
use. Sionix has developed a product using dissolved air
floatation technology to expand the types of waters that will
be treated with Permanent Media Pressure and numerous other
filtration systems. Significant enhancements in the methodologies
employed to effect the advantages of DAF have been implemented
into this product configuration. A significant reduction in
the cost of equipment and operation will be realized with
this innovation. Turnkey potable and wastewater systems with
minimal operator interface is one focus of Sionix' development
program. DAF has been shown to successfully remove 3 plus
log factors of Giardia, Cryptosporidium and other forms of
bacteria. Their technology includes existing patents with
additional patents being applied for.

Clean Water Act Enforced in Shipyard Industry
------------------------------------------------------------
Stormwater Management Inc. Wins Contract to Supply Stormwater
Filtration Technology for National Steel and Shipyard Company
of San Diego
PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The amendments to the
1972 Federal Water Pollution Control Act, known as the Clean
Water Act, prohibited the discharge of polluted water from a
direct point source unless companies obtained a National
Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
Before the adoption of the Clean Water Act and subsequent
amendments and rules signed in the 80s, and a rule signed in
October 1999, shipyards were exempt from managing stormwater
run-off, a non-point source of water pollution.
Recognizing the danger of untreated stormwater runoff to
coastal marine life and abiding by federal laws, National Steel
and Shipyard Company (NASSCO) is taking strides to reduce or
eliminate the discharge of shipyard pollutants. Contaminants
like zinc and copper, sediments, and oil and grease, are toxic
to fish and marine life.
Full implementation of the project will test Portland, Ore.-based
Stormwater Management Inc.'s StormFilter(R) filtration technology,
a low-cost, passive treatment system that collects rainwater
in large underground concrete vaults. When the water enters
the vault, it passes through a compost media consisting of
deciduous leaves. The compost media physically strains large
solid portions of the zinc and copper contaminants out.
Dissolved portions of the zinc and copper contaminants adhere
to the compost media, thus removing it from the stormwater.
After passing through the media, the clean filtered water is
safely released into Mission Bay.
"We are not just aiding in the enforcement of government
regulations," said David Pollock, president and CEO of Stormwater
Management Inc., "we are supporting the life and balance of
our environment."
Runoff from a six-acre portion of the shipyard will be collected
and treated with the StormFilter technology. A full-installation
will occur in fall 2000 and is considered a test by engineers
due to the comprehensive monitoring of the system. The test
period is likely to be completed by March 2002. As a result of
the test project, Italian shipyards are investigating StormFilter
filtration technology for implementation.
This is the largest industrial application of the StormFilter
technology, which has proven success in treating commercial
and highway runoff sites.
About Stormwater Management Inc.
Portland, Ore.-based Stormwater Management Inc. is the leading
provider of stormwater treatment solutions. Founded in 1994,
the company's mission is to develop stormwater treatment solutions
for engineers, developers and jurisdictional authorities to keep

development and is always working to find efficient and economical
solutions to meet the requirements of national and local
legislation, including the National Pollution Discharge
Elimination System (NPDES). Stormwater Management also provides
technical support in analyzing and developing solutions for
site-specific stormwater runoff situations. The company's
patented StormFilter is widely accepted and has received

Reliable 24/7 Performance Air Blowers for WWT Plants
------------------------------------------------------------
Atlas Copco integrally geared centrifugal air blowers offer
the performance, reliability and low maintenance you need to
help manage costs in today’s demanding wastewater treatment
environment. They operate in a flow range from 5,000 to
120,000 SCFM and at pressures from 8 to 12 psi. And optional
inlet guide vanes enable you to precisely adjust flow to
manage your demand cycles and manage your costs.
Maintenance of Atlas Copco blowers is simplified by the
horizontally split gearbox and horizontally split bearings
and seals. Inspections can be done in half the time required
for conventional blowers. Installation costs are dramatically
reduced since there is no requirement for special pads or
grouting.
Stainless steel impellers easily handle the corrosive
atmosphere of the treatment plant, so there’s no need to
inventory spare impellers. Operating controls are programmed
to your specific application by Atlas Copco engineers
experienced in wastewater treatment operations. Sequencing
and links to DCS systems can be easily accommodated. Allen
Bradley-based control systems are standard but other brands
can be used to match existing systems.
If you want reliable, cost-effective 24/7 blower operation
for your plant, call on the global experience of Atlas
Copco design and application engineering teams and specify
reliable, application-proven Atlas Copco centrifugal blowers.
Atlas Copco single-stage integrally geared air blowers for
wastewater treatment applications are standardized packages.
All components are individually tested and the entire unit
is factory tested to performance specifications before
shipment.

Mr. Corley needs help with industrial water treatment:
I am looking for a water treatment system for a small
industrial complex. Our water has tested positive for total
coliform twice in the last 6 months. I treated the system
with chlorine about 2 months ago and thought that had solved
the problem. It did not. The most recent test was positive
again.
I need to know what I need to do to fix this recurring problem.
If you know a solution please feel free to contact me.
Any help would be much appreciated.
