AMEC to Double Environmental Operations in United States
------------------------------------------------------------
PHOENIX, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- AMEC, the international
engineering and services company, today announced that it will
more than double its environmental and geotechnical engineering
capability in the United States. This is to be achieved
through acquiring the assets of Ogden Corporation's
environmental consulting subsidiary, Ogden Environmental and
Energy Services Co., Inc. (OEES). The purchase price consists
of approximately US$15 million to be paid at closing, and an
additional $2.5 million to be paid six months thereafter,
subject to certain contractual conditions.
Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20001030/LAM028
The acquisition will provide 27 new offices to AMEC in the
U.S. with 650 professionals and annual revenues of approximately
US$80 million. OEES's strengths include environmental risk
assessment, hazardous waste remediation, natural resource
planning, and water resources engineering, which complement
AMEC's existing business lines. The offices will operate
under the AMEC brand name.
Sale of the assets of OEES is a continuation of Ogden
Corporation's strategy to divest its non-core businesses and
focus exclusively on its role as a leading energy company.
Currently, AMEC operates 19 Earth & Environmental offices in
the western United States and 41 in Canada. The Ogden purchase
establishes a significant new presence in the eastern U.S. and
adds to the company's environmental leadership in the U.S. market.
It also brings AMEC's total Earth & Environmental consulting
staff in North America to 2,200 and annual revenue in Earth &
Environmental to more than US$200 million. Including all
subsidiaries, AMEC operates more than 150 offices throughout
North America.
Roger Jinks, President of Earth & Environmental at AMEC said:
"This expansion of AMEC's earth and environmental consulting
services base in the eastern United States fulfills an important
goal of our strategic plans. We have extended our range and
technology and are better positioned than ever to provide national
clients with consistently high quality environmental solutions,
coast to coast in the U.S. and throughout North America."
"AMEC will benefit from OEES's experience and established
relationships with the government services sector as well as
with commercial and state and municipal clients. OEES's clients
will gain new access to additional geotechnical and materials
inspection skills in the oil and gas, mining and transportation
sectors. The end result will be a much broader and deeper
range of world-class expertise for clients of both companies."
Subject to closing conditions, completion of the transaction
is expected in approximately 30 days.
AMEC operates one of North America's leading earth and
environmental consulting services entities, encompassing all
aspects of environmental services, geotechnical engineering,
materials testing and water resource services.
AMEC plc is a provider of services and engineering solutions
to the world's infrastructure, manufacturing and process
industries. The company creates value for clients through
the application of technologies, alliances and innovative
partnerships.
AMEC merged recently with AGRA Inc., a leading North American
professional engineering and environmental services firm.
AMEC owns 41.6 per cent of SPIE S.A., the international
electrical engineering, infrastructure and construction
services company based in France, and has an option to buy
the balance of SPIE in 2002.
Together, AMEC and SPIE employ 50,000 people in 40 countries
with annual revenue in excess of US$8 billion. AMEC plc
(London: AMEC) is headquartered in the United Kingdom.

Largest Storm-Water Attenuation Tank Installed in Scotland
------------------------------------------------------------
B & M Pipelines have recently completed a 70 meter three
pipe storm attenuation tank for incorporation into the Rothesay
Sewerage Scheme. The tank is the largest of its kind to be
built in the UK, comprising three High Density Polyethylene
Structured Wall tanks interlinked to provide the required
1,350 m3 storage capacity.
These tanks were fabricated off-site at James Watt Dock in
Greenock from 3.0 meter internal diameter Bauku pipe supplied
and fabricated by B & M Pipeline Services Ltd of Bromborough,
Wirral with the complicated upstands and downstands pumping
chambers being pre-fabricated at B & M's workshop prior to
transporting to Greenock for connection utilizing specialist
welding techniques.
On completion of the tanks the contractor Nuttall lifted the
entire structure into the dock using the existing dockside
crane and prepared for towing across the Firth of Clyde to
Rothesay where they will be sunk into position.

Quantum Analytical Introduces New Line of Instrumentation
------------------------------------------------------------
Racine, Wis. - Quantum Analytical Instruments Inc. introduces
a new family of instrumentation for all on-line, process
control applications. Quantum's mission is to meet the needs
of the on-line instrumentation market with a family of products
that offers the user uncompromising integrity and outstanding
value.
This new analytical instrumentation platform is based on
advanced sensor technology. A new line of sensors for pH,
ORP, Conductivity, and Dissolved Oxygen is constructed of
materials that ensure long sensing life under the harshest
environments. The sensor housings are constructed of PEEK,
a high performance thermoplastic that provides outstanding
mechanical strength and chemical resistance. Multiple sealing
materials are used to preserve sensor integrity over a wide
range of applications.
The microprocessor-based 2-wire transmitter features a user
friendly system interface. A large, high contrast display
provides two lines of data, one of which is user configurable.
The software interface is based on simple menu logic system.
The four button keypad and on-display icons provide an
intuitive approach that makes configuration and calibration
straightforward.
The housing of this family of transmitters is designed to
provide the user with a high degree of flexibility for
system mounting. Not only can this analyzer be mounted on
a wall, pipe rail, DIN rail, or a control panel, it can
also be mounted directly onto the back of the sensor.
This new family of analytical instrumentation is designed
for all continuous monitoring applications. Contact our
local representative or the factory today for additional
information on the new family of products from Quantum

Cal-Clean(tm) Automated pH Measurement System
------------------------------------------------------------
Milwaukee, WI -- GLI International has introduced the
Cal-Clean(tm) Automated pH Measurement System. This system,
designed for use in food, pharmaceutical, chemical process,
and wastewater applications, allows for automatic pH electrode
cleaning and calibration without interrupting the process.
The automation control box, Series 63 pH analyzer, and pH
electrode positioner are packaged for ease of use and maximum
flexibility.
Cleaning and calibration events are scheduled independently
by the user. The analyzer automatically signals the control
box to operate the electrode auto-positioner and dispense
cleaning, rinse, and buffer solutions during wash and
calibration cycles. The air pressure actuated auto-positioner
uses two electronic sensors to verify when the electrode is
fully inserted and retracted.
The premium-grade combination pH electrode can handle a broad
range of applications including those with steam sterilization,
caustic cleaning, clean-in-place and other special requirements.
Mounting hardware is available for a variety of process
connections.
