New Pump Selection Software

Dresden, Germany -- Vogel Software presents the second generation of pump selection software, Spaix Classic. The new software, which is unique throughout the world in its functional diversity, also takes account of complex selection algorithms such as, for example, those for magnet drive pumps, vertical line shaft pumps or the curve correction according to the motor performance. Its simplified operation enables the software to deliver the optimum solution, not just for pump manufacturers, but equally as well for operators, planners and engineering offices.

Click hereThe developers have paid special attention in ensuring that the software reflects users' daily requirements and thus really makes the work easier. Through close collaboration with several pump manufacturers and operators, a large number of the desires and tips gained from practical experience are taken into consideration in the new version.

"During the whole development phase we actively sought out contact with our customers throughout Europe. We have received valuable tips from their experiences in the application of Spaix V1 which have had a decisive influence on the new version", reports VSX' Managing Director, Jens-Uwe Vogel.

When the Managing Director speaks of development trends in pump selection software, he mainly comments on the growing integration of web and windows applications. The aim is to utilize the advantages of both versions in an optimum fashion. The greatest advantage of the internet application is its up-to-date nature. Spaix V2 incorporates an integrated internet update function by means of which the software can be automatically updated.

Pump manufacturers, who pass on software to their customers using CD licenses, can also use the function for data changes. This does away with the need for expensive CD production for price or data updates. Furthermore, with data group administration the database can also be adapted to different local markets without any problems.

Symposium on Treatment of MTBE Contamination

Emeryville, CA, October 4, 2002 - MTBE contamination of groundwater, a growing concern among some California communities, will be the focus of the Groundwater Resources Association of California's (GRA) Fifth Symposium in its Series on Groundwater Contaminants, "Biological Treatment of MTBE Contamination in Groundwater: Ex-situ and In-situ Challenges." Co-sponsored by environmental consultants Malcolm Pirnie, Inc., and held in conjunction with the Santa Clara Valley Water District, the Symposium will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel in San Jose on October 17, 2002.

Methyl tert-butyl ether, MTBE, a commonly used gasoline oxygenate, has in recent years been identified as a groundwater contaminant, especially in California where its occurrence in drinking water supply wells in Santa Monica and South Lake Tahoe has been highly publicized. Initially thought to be resistant to biological breakdown in groundwater aquifers, MTBE has been recently shown to be effectively destroyed by a number of biological treatment technologies.

The GRA Symposium will showcase discussions of recent reports of MTBE bioremediation case studies, and will focus on the use of molecular, isotopic and other innovative tools for evaluating the success of in-situ bioremediation in the field. In addition, a panel of speakers will address regulatory issues related to the acceptance of intrinsic biodegradation, a component of natural attenuation, as a site closure strategy.

For more information on the symposium, visit www.grac.org

Dr. Rula Deeb, a senior project engineer at Malcolm Pirnie, and a nationally recognized expert on bioremediation, will co-chair the symposium. According to Dr. Deeb, "It is crucial to bring the scientific community together to discuss breakthroughs in the science of groundwater protection so that we continue to improve both the application of information and the quality of our environment."

Carlsbad Purchases Mobile Filtration System

Oct. 9, 2002 – USFilter’s Memcor Products recently sold its first PreMPT membrane filtration system to the City of Carlsbad, Calif. The system will be used to expand the Encina Water Recycling Facility (WRF), which serves the communities of Carlsbad, Vista, Encinitas, Buena Vista, Vallecitos and Leucadia County.

The newly developed PreMPT system will treat wastewater from the Avendia Encinas plant to produce water used for landscape and golf course irrigation. The Encina WRF’s PreMPT system will supply 0.85 million gallons per day (mgd) of pretreated water to a 0.7-mgd reverse osmosis (RO) system. The mobile microfiltration system will be delivered to the facility in late 2002, with start-up scheduled for the following spring.

The containerized PreMPT system is USFilter’s latest method of providing Memcor® continuous microfiltration-submerged (CMF-S) technology for applications that require mobility, a small footprint and reduced installation time and costs. Designed to supply from 600,000 gallons per day (gpd) to 1.2 mgd, the PreMPT system is fully automated with remote monitoring capability to reduce operator attendance. The unit also includes the Memcor pressure decay test, a fully automated and highly sensitive integrity test system, that allows the operator to directly verify over 4-log reduction of pathogenic organisms such as Giardia lamblia and/or Cryptosporidium.

USFilter’s Memcor Products provides flexible, state-of-the-art microfiltration and RO membrane solutions for treating ground water, surface water, seawater, industrial process water, and water reuse. A leading manufacturer of municipal and industrial microfiltration systems, USFilter’s Memcor Products continues to develop new membrane polymers, module configurations and system designs for today and the future.

United States Filter Corporation is North America’s largest water company providing comprehensive water and wastewater systems and services to commercial, industrial, municipal and residential customers. Visit the company’s web sites at www.usfilter.com

Mr. Del La Cruz wants to control H2S in lift stations:

What is the best way to control H2S in lift stations?  I know that H2O2 is great for controlling H2S, but it would be difficult to set up an injection system at each of the lift stations.

Ms. Cetincift needs help with sub micron particles:

If you ever worked with an optical fiber plant please take a look at this question.

Is there any chemical way to make the sub micron particles of SiO2 to precipitate more efficiently in an acidic solution of waste water?
