Osmonics Awarded $3.8 Million
Contract to Improve Drinking Water in Texas
System Will Purify and Desalt 6
Million Gallons of Brazos River Water Daily
MINNETONKA, Minn.--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--Sept. 11, 2001--Osmonics Inc. (NYSE:OSM) was recently awarded
a $3.8 million contract for a reverse osmosis (RO) system to be used
to desalt and purify Brazos River water from the Granbury Reservoir
southwest of Fort Worth, Texas.
The
Brazos River Authority contracted Osmonics to reduce dissolved
minerals in the Brazos River to meet the World Health Organization's
standards for drinking water. The system, which consists of four
Osmo MUNI Series RO units designed specifically for the municipal
market and containing over 1,200 Osmonics replaceable membrane
elements, will be installed in Granbury, Texas, to provide water to
local municipalities.
"Advances in system design and
energy efficiency have made RO membrane technology a competitive
alternative to traditional water treatment, while providing superior
quality," said Curt Weitnauer, vice president and general
manager of Osmonics' Process Water Group. "We are expecting
continued growth in the municipal market as EPA regulations,
consumers' heightened awareness of water quality and diminishing
potable water sources continue to drive demand for our municipal
water treatment systems."
As the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act
is beginning to be enforced, more than 25,000 small- and medium-size
municipal water treatment facilities - of the total 50,000
facilities estimated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) -
will need to improve water treatment to comply with the regulations.
As a result, many municipalities will need to invest in better water
treatment equipment.
Since 1969, Osmonics has helped
communities around the world comply with drinking water regulations
by engineering, manufacturing and supplying membrane-based water
treatment equipment. The MUNI Series line of energy-efficient water
treatment systems enables municipalities to comply with the Safe
Drinking Water Act by treating water for removal of dissolved
minerals, arsenic, hardness, color, radium, nitrates and sulfates.
Osmonics is a leading manufacturer
and worldwide marketer of high technology water purification and
fluid filtration, fluid separation and fluid handling equipment, as
well as the replaceable components used In purification, filtration,
and separation equipment. These products are used by a broad range
of industrial, commercial, household and institutional customers.

Grants
Locator System
New Service Helps
Water Agencies Find Grants On-Line
SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--Sept. 7, 2001--The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA)
today launched a new service aimed at helping water agencies find
and apply for grants from a variety of state and federal sources.
ACWA has teamed up with online
information provider eCivis, LLC to provide its members with
immediate, up-to-the-minute details about grant opportunities
specific to their needs. The service will give water agencies access
-- at a discount rate -- to the powerful Grants Locator system,
which guides users through the maze of state and federal grant
programs and helps them zero in on relevant funding opportunities.
ACWA Executive Director Stephen K.
Hall said the service will help water agencies secure critically
needed funds from state bond measures such as Proposition 13 of 2000
and Proposition 204 of 1996. It also will help agencies take
advantage of grants and rebates through emergency energy legislation
enacted earlier this year.
"Although there are tremendous
grant opportunities right now for water agencies, many lack the
resources to track them down," Hall said. "Our goal is to
overcome that by helping our members get instant access to grant
information and a jump start on the application process."
Hall noted that grant funding is
available for projects ranging from groundwater management to
drinking water treatment to energy efficiency programs.
eCivis Chief Executive Officer
William Ferguson, Jr. stated, "We are very pleased to be
working with ACWA and its public agency members. The relationship
has allowed us to focus further on programs in the areas of energy
and water. The Grants Locator system will enable ACWA members to
find all Federal and State of California funding opportunities
relevant to their projects without having to spend hours searching
for grants and calling program officers. We are excited that several
ACWA members including the Kern County Water Agency and Panoche
Water District have already signed up for Grants Locator."
The Grants Locator system ( http://www.eCivis.com/ACWA/default.cfm)
has data on more than 1,500 fully researched grants worth more than
$30 billion. Water agencies can search for topics such as water
supply, water quality, wastewater, recycling and reuse, and natural
resources. They also can download application forms and guidelines
for making applications more competitive.
ACWA is a statewide organization
whose 440 public agency members are responsible for about 90% of the
water delivered in California. eCivis, LLC is the leading provider
of online information about federal and state grants. Its product,
Grants Locator, is the first comprehensive online system of federal
and California grants that is updated on a daily basis.
