Plant/Process Description:
Orange County has three regional water
reclamation facilities. They are the South Water
Reclamation Facility, Eastern Water Reclamation
Facility and Northwest Water Reclamation
Facility.
Eastern Water Reclamation Facility (EWRF)
The EWRF began operating in 1984. It has a
current treatment capacity of 19 million gallons
per day. The EWRF and its service area reuse
system were initiated to enhance the environment
of the Econolockhatchee River Basin in east
Central Florida, reduce the demand upon potable
groundwater by providing reclaimed water for non-
potable uses and provide sufficient wastewater
treatment capacity for one of the most rapidly
growing areas in the nation.
The EWRF uses the 5-stage Bardenpho® Advanced
Biological Nutrient Removal treatment process
with fermentation, first anoxic, aeration,
second anoxic, re-aeration, final clarification,
filtration and chlorination.
The reuse system at this facility includes
groundwater recharge through RIBs, industrial
reuse, irrigation and wetlands creation and
enhancement. The EWRF supplies over 10 million
gallons per day of cooling water to the Orlando
Utilities Commission's Curtis Stanton Energy
Center, located nearby.
